Title: COCKLOFT
Author: KC Lynn
Release Date: August 18, 2017
TBR Link: Goodreads

Synopsis

Cockloft: A firefighter term used as a structural space above ceiling and below rafters, often connecting adjacent occupancies and permitting fire to spread laterally, often unseen.

Gabriel Martinez is the most arrogant and infuriating man I’ve ever met. He has a knee-weakening smirk that makes me want to kiss—no—slap it off his rude, sexy face. Judging by his ego, you’d think the hose in his pants is as big as the one on his fire truck. Not that I know anything about that nor do I want to. Nope, not at all. He’s already been forgotten like last season’s Michael Kors.

CeCe Kensington is as pretentious and spoiled as they come. The ridiculous purses she shoulders around are as big as her attitude. And don’t get me started on her mile-long legs or full, glossy lips that are meant to be wrapped around a guy’s… If she only knew the dirty things I think about doing to that sassy mouth of hers, she'd be hightailing it back to her side of town.

✿¸.•´¸✿*´¨) ¸.•*¨✿

When the beautiful boutique owner and sexy firefighter meet in the most unlikely situation, their two worlds collide, creating an explosion of misperceptions and combustible heat, trapping them in a fire they never saw coming.

Blurb

Who knew sleeping with the enemy could be this fun?

Was the one night stand a good idea? Well, no. Probably not in retrospect. In my defense I had just moved back into my grandparent’s house, I’d lost my dream job, and a guy on Tinder had stood me up. It was like life had suddenly stamped ‘LOSER’ on my forehead. So when the guy behind the bar started giving me THE look…you know, the one that promised I’d be screaming his name into the wee hours of the morning? When that guy also has the perfect amount of scruff on his chiseled chin, biceps bulging out of his t-shirt, and a cocky grin you knew he’d earned in the sack…when he gives you that look, you don’t bother to figure out what your six degrees of separation are. You jump on that horse and ride it! Pun fully and completely intended. And accurate by the way. I fully admit to feeling sorry for myself and acting impulsively, but by the time I’d figured out WHO the bartender was, I was already falling for him.

Excerpt

An hour and a half later and hot stuff has come around the bar to take the seat beside me and join me on my mission to get shit-faced. I have to admit, I’m enjoying his company, but it doesn’t exactly make him Employee of the Year given the fact that he’s supposed to be working. “Won’t your boss be mad that you’re drinking on the job?” I ask. That damn dimple makes another appearance again before he answers. “Nah, he’s cool. It’s dead in here tonight. If anyone comes in, I’ll be sure they get what they need.” His gaze rakes up and down my small frame, and I get the distinct impression that he’s picturing me naked. Jeez, I hope my nakedness looks amazing in his brain. Given the half-crooked smile on his face, I think it must. I wonder if his imagination is good enough to picture that dimple in my ass that doesn’t ever seem to want to disappear, regardless of how much I weigh. As if he’s tempted fate with his words, the bell over the door dings and an older gentleman walks in and seats himself at one of the bar tables across the room. “Be right back.” Cole pats my hand before he rises from his seat. It was an innocent gesture, but it makes me think dirty things. The heat from his hand seeps up my arm like a bee sting and settles somewhere in my chest. I watch him walk away and can’t help but notice the way his ass perfectly fills out his jeans. It bunches and flexes as his long strides take him across the bar. Maybe Lennon is right and it has been too long since I’ve been with a man. It’s then that I realize that Tinder dude still hasn’t shown up. The bar isn’t busy, probably since it’s the middle of the week, and I’ve been chatting—okay, flirting—with Cole and hadn’t realized how much time had passed. I grab my phone from my purse and open the app to see that I have a new message. Pussylickr69: Not coming. Sorry found someone else who wasn’t so much werk Fury causes my face to heat as I type out a quick reply that might be, and by that I mean most definitely is, alcohol-fueled. Whiteebanter: Yeah, I can see how thirty minutes of conversation is too much foreplay for you. Fuck you and your lack of knowledge of the English language. You spell work with an ‘o,’ dipshit. There. That’ll show him. With a frown, I drop my phone back into my purse. “Everything okay?” Cole asks as he takes the seat beside me again. I sigh. “Yeah, I just found out that Pussylicker isn’t coming anymore.” Cole nearly spits out the sip of drink he’s just taken and has a coughing fit before he fully recovers. “Excuse me?” “I was waiting for a guy from Tinder to show up, but he just ditched me because apparently it was too much work to have a drink with me before taking me back to his place to bang me.” I spin my glass in place on the bar top. “You’re trolling for guys on Tinder?” Cole howls with laughter so hard he has to hold his stomach. I love the way the laugh looks on his face—the way it crinkles his eyes at the corners and how it showcases his perfect teeth. But all that aside, it’s irritating. “It’s not that funny.” This guy might be hot, but right now he’s working my nerves. “Actually, it is. Why the hell would a woman like you resort to finding someone to fuck on a dating site?” The way the word ‘fuck’ rolls off his tongue has all my womanly parts contracting and wishing that it was an invitation to do just that. But never mind that, because I’m annoyed at him, I just barely remember through my drunken haze. “What do you mean a woman like me?” I try to do air quotes around the last part, but my balance isn’t what it was three hours ago, and I almost topple off my stool, so I quickly grab on to the bar in front of me. “Beautiful. Intelligent. Likable. Smartass.” He ticks each word off on one hand while he speaks and he says it like he means it. I hold his stare for a minute before realization dawns. “Hey! I’m a B.I.L.F. You know, like a M.I.L.F. Only different.” I’m so impressed that I thought of that given my current state. Cole chuckles with an amused gleam in his eyes. “Only better,” he says. Our gazes lock for a beat and it’s at that moment I know that if I offer myself up to this guy, he’ll be more than willing to send me on the walk of shame tomorrow morning. Heat rushes into my cheeks and I look away. As much bravado as I had earlier about my Tinder escapade, I’m not sure I can do this. Be this girl so full of confidence that she bangs a stranger with no qualms about it. My elation has crash-landed on the ground as I realize I’m not able to pull the trigger and make an advance toward him. I also know I’ll probably regret it forever because this man is so far beyond good-looking that it’s a speck in the rear-view mirror. Not to mention the fact that he’s sexy as hell and seems to be a decent human being. Which is more impossible to find in the Bay area than someone who doesn’t think they’re allergic to gluten. I take a deep breath and finish the last couple of gulps of my drink and push the glass in Cole’s direction. “Another, please.” Cole tosses back the rest of his drink and I watch as his Adam’s apple bobs in his throat while the liquid slides down. Damn. That is sexy. Why is that sexy? “I’m going to join you for another as well.” He gets up off his bar stool and before walking away he comes to stand directly behind me. “Assuming you want me to stick around?” His breath washes across my neck and my ear and I close my eyes for a brief moment to enjoy the sensation. “I’d like that,” I say with all honesty. “Good. I know the first guy let you down, but don’t worry… I’ve been told I lick pussy like a boss.” And with that, he walks away while I struggle to keep my heart from pounding out of my chest. I’m out of my league with this guy. I know it and there’s a good chance that he knows it, too. But ask yourself this, ladies… if you were called up to the big leagues from the minors, would you say no?

I trust no one.

Everything inside me screams not to trust her either. I fight an internal war daily as my desire for her spreads like a wildfire through me -my cravings to protect her just as powerful as my need to taste her, touch her. Never has anyone held this kind of power over my need to rule, but I would risk my power in a heartbeat to have her.

Regardless of the cost, I will have her. I’ll sacrifice everything to ensure it.

And, I’ll destroy anyone who stands in my way.

EXCERPT:

“You ready for this, gorgeous?” I ask, with unexplainable uncertainty.

She gives a forced smile and a tense nod of consent before looking away, but it isn’t enough for me. Moving my hand under her chin, I gently turn her face back to me.

“Elianna, you’re safe with me. I can promise you, I’ll be close even if I’m not by your side. Do you trust me?” I inquire. She looks at me as if she’s weighing the question.

“Lucas, am I in danger?” she asks, trying to put the pieces together and avoiding my question. Smart girl.

“I don’t know, Sunshine, but I’m not willing to take the chance. There are too many unknowns and until I know anything with certainty, I want to be the one keeping you safe.”

“Why you? Why not the Nicchi family? Do you feel responsible for me because your brother isn’t here?” She interrogates. She’s right to question my motives. Trust is a betraying bitch and a mistake can get you or someone you love killed. I don’t trust anyone to have my back completely, and because of that I’ll never be able to stop looking over my shoulder. Eli is different though. She’s safe with me and I want her to trust me, but I know it’s a lot to ask of people like us so I understand.

Even if my motive to stand beside her at the service was initially for Matteo, that changed the second she let the shield of hers down. Elianna is strong, gorgeous, confident, and too smart for her own good, but once she showed me her vulnerability, I was done.

“Let’s just say I have trust issues, sunshine. That’s why it has to be me. I would’ve done anything my brother asked of me, but he wouldn’t have ever had to ask me to keep you close,” I tell her truthfully. It seems the harder I try to ignore the facts in front of me, the more they come back to slap me in the face.

“So I should just trust you, Lucas . . . with my life? What do you really want from me?” Her voice drifts to almost a whisper.

“Everything, Elianna. Every. Single. Thing. If you aren’t ready to trust me, I’ll wait. Until then though, I’m still going to be the one to keep you safe,” I pause, measuring her for a moment, before continuing. “I want you to give me a code word in case you need a second to regroup or want an out. What will it be?” I probe, not allowing my hand to fall from under her chin. Even this small connection somehow seems to be bigger than we are.

“Liability,” she answers, her voice sounding fragile. It’s the first outward sign of weakness she’s shown me, other than the minutes we shared at Matteo’s service, when I was her comfort and shield of support.

Her eyes betray her confidence, and the instinct to reassure her is too strong to avoid. I drop my hand from her chin and move it, wrapping my fingers around her tiny waist, letting my free hand mimic the same on her other side. I tug her a step closer to me. Bending my head slightly forward, I rest my forehead on hers so that we’re eye-to-eye. Earning her trust isn’t going to be easy, but it’s necessary.

“Liability,” I repeat, my tone gentle and still somehow apologetic. I’m not sure what I want more from her. There’s a part of me that wants to push her away and keep my distance, but on the other half, knows I’ll never get her close enough to satisfy my desires. I can’t let her be my weakness though. Men like me would never survive in this this life with weaknesses. Elianna deserves better, and I know it, but knowing and accepting are two completely different things.

WE ARE EXCITED TO BRING YOU THE COVER FOR CUFFED BY NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLING AUTHOR K.BROMBERG RELEASING ON OCTOBER 23!

Design: Helen Williams
Photographer: Wander Aguiar
From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them. “I hate you. I never want to see you again.” Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again. Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past. But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it. What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right? *** I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves. That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up. Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story. I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight. ADD TO GOODREADS
